Feeding the hungry...Sheltering the homeless...Offering hope

Family Care Ministry

The Family Care Ministry provides assistance to families in need such as food, personal care items, household products, clothing, and prayer and wise counsel.  Many families served are in crisis due to underemployment, unemployment, medical crisis, fire, or poverty.  The elderly and children are a large percentage of the individuals served. In addition to the aforermentioned services, the Family Care Ministry also operates the Inter-Church Food Bank which provides food and other items to church members in need through a Pastor referral.  Pastors may contact the Family Care Ministry for more information about this service and to obtain a Referral Form.

But the Mission's Family Care Ministry is there not only to help in emergencies, it is also preventive in nature because it often helps the needy before addiction, abuse or homelessness sets in. Our caring and compassionate staff is there to be a friend, a helper, an encourager, a teacher, as they meet the physical needs of the hungry and hurting while introducing them to the only One who can really change their lives, the Lord Jesus Christ .

"I never thought I would ever be to the point in my life where I had nothing.  I had to completely start over.  I lost my home, my job, and my goal in life.  When I came to the Family Care Ministry of the City Rescue Mission, you not only helped me with my material needs - I found a friend."

Holiday Distributions

Each year at Thanksgiving, the Family Care Ministry provides a special basket of food individually created for each family (according to size) that not only provides a great Thanksgiving meal, but food for several days thereafter.  This distribution is made in both Lawrence and Beaver counties and each year provides serves 2,000+ individuals.

Family Care Christmas DistributionThe Family Care Ministry's Christmas distribution provides gifts of pajamas, socks, underwear, and toys to area children in need.  In 2006, over 500 children had a brighter Christmas morning thanks to this caring outreach.

It is only through the generosity of many churches, organizations and individuals that these special programs can take place.  Thank you!
